I joined Facebook in college back in 2005 and have had a complicated relationship with social media ever since. After six months in Europe and two weeks with my phone off at a Buddhist monastery, I finally made a decision.
I started rehearsals this week for Pump Boys and Dinettes at Miner's Alley Performing Arts Center in Golden, CO — and it has felt incredible to be back after some time away. Which feels like a good moment to talk about the other half of my life.
Last June I left Denver with a camera, a loose plan, and a lot of curiosity. Six months, seven countries, a Buddhist monastery, a wedding in Corfu, the Northern Lights, and one very memorable goat-herding experience later — I came home.
Five years ago today — March 16, 2020 — Denver shut down. As a photographer, my instinct was to pick up a camera. But instead of just documenting the anxiety and uncertainty of it all, my then-wife Chloe and I decided to make something a little more fun.
